Jesus, a Prophet who was extremely misunderstood by people who claim to be as his followers. Much disputes and disagreements held by Christians about Jesus (peace be upon him). Some consider him a Son of God, others believe him as divine and God himself.
However, Islam’s understanding of the personality of Jesus (peace be upon him) is crystal clear.
In many parts of the Quran, God tells the story of Jesus from his birth till when He raised his soul. The Quran came to confirm some of what is revealed about Jesus in the Bible within the hands of Christians nowadays and to clear and correct what was corrupted and refute the false ideas about Jesus.
Quran mentions: That is Jesus, the son of Mary – the word of truth about which they are in dispute. (19:34)
Jesus spoke in the Quran. He spoke words of truth and wisdom. Let’s see five truths Jesus himself said in the Quran.
1- He is the Humble Servant of God
Jesus clearly said that he had come with a mission: to teach people the right belief, to inform people about the oneness of God who created everything and doesn’t resemble his creatures not need them.
[Jesus] said, “Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. (19:30)
And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant. (19:32)
2- He Worships God Alone
[Jesus said], “And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.” (19:36)
And when Jesus brought clear proofs, he said, “I have come to you with wisdom and to make clear to you some of that over which you differ, so fear Allah and obey me. (43:63)
Unlike other Prophets, Jesus’ birth was a miracle in itself. The Quran mentions Jesus to perform many miracles by the Will of God.
4- He Will Come Back to Earth in the End of Times
Jesus will certainly return. He will return to confirm the true beliefs and spread justice, as the Quran confirms.
And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive.” (19:33)
5- He is Not Divine
God attributed some special qualities in Jesus, that many people wrongfully think of him as God or Son of God. And in the Day of Judgment, Jesus will Stand will be questioned about what his people used to believe in him: And [beware the Day] when will say, “O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, ‘Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?’”
He will reply with the words of truth: I said not to them except what Allah commanded me – to worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them (5:116-117)
As Muslims, we follow the Quran in respecting and honoring Jesus, son of Mary. And our faith is not complete if we don’t have a sound belief in Jesus and all other Prophets and messengers of God (peace be upon them).
