The wind blows, and from the towering mountain sounds sounds like the screams of a great bird speaking to the desert in the language of the elves who live in the heart of the terrible cave, or what the residents call “Kaf Al-Janun”, a mountain in the southwest of Libya whose frightening legends do not end even in the 21st century..
The researcher Mahdi Al-Mousa tells that the mountain has several names, including the Cave of Safety, the Cave of Madness, the Cave of Indinan or the Cave of Adnan, but the scientific missions called it the Cave of Safety, contrary to the frightening legends that were said about it and the hearts roared.
As for the origin of the other names, Moses says that the name of Mount Adnan is a Tariq name – meaning the language of the Tuareg – Adnan is one of the names of the jinn among the Tuareg tribes, and they say that the mountain is the kingdom of the jinn on earth, and the legends around it do not end, old and new.
Al-Kaf in the Libyan dialect means the mountain, and it is strange in its mythical structure, a rock whose protrusions overlap with its high point, and wide holes whose ends are black and brown, like a beard that grew from the hair of time. His legend is written by everyone who approached him in his own way.
Sounds and Creatures Appear and Disappear
In the city of Ghat, the people of the region repeat tales through time that they do not accept to question about repeated events in which speech and movement are mixed about creatures living in the rocky kingdom, ruled by the king residing in the Supreme Palace (Kaf al-madness), to which no human has risen but disappeared and no longer, and there are He says he met someone, talked to him and then suddenly disappeared.
The researcher in history says: “Among the circulating accounts is that a person used to go every evening towards the south of the mountain, to enjoy the view of the desert and the calm, but once he heard the sounds of a football match, the sound was faint at first, then it started getting louder and louder until the sound reached him. He went to Ghat, and he shivered severely, and he told people a story that he heard the jinn playing ball.
He also mentioned “another narration that a family stood to repair a car tire near the mountain, so one of the boys saw a car that stopped and a person got out of it who gave him bread, so the boy took it and went to his father and said to him: Whoever gave you this bread, the boy replied: The man who got out of the car gave it to me . But the family did not see any car or person, and the father ate the bread, and when he returned home, he felt that he had eaten something abnormal, and he remained ill for 6 days, until he went to the sheikhs for treatment.”
A Voice That Never Shuts Up
As for the sounds that come from the top of the mountain, they are never silent, they rise sometimes until they fill the whole area, and they may fall, but they are never silent.
Many people have tried to explain this phenomenon. Some have interpreted it as the fact that the wind penetrates the openings of various sizes in the body of the mountain; It forms a vocal chorus of different layers that people count as sounds emanating from the mouths of the elves group that lives inside the stone cave, and it issues its orders to its subjects who live in the rock houses spread throughout its land.
Old-Fashioned Drawings
The mountain is located in the Akakos region in the southwest of Libya, near the border with Algeria. Its mountains are topped with drawings dug in different locations on the mountains. Historians of an era say that it was the land of civilization and agriculture, and they infer this by drawings in which there are many animals and human activities, and UNESCO classified it as part of the human heritage.
According to Musa, the height of the mountain starts from 900 to 1200, including gradual heights, and it is a sedimentary mountain, and it is 15 kilometers from the nearest inhabited road. On each of the two stones resembles a man standing, and in the north there are caves that are not found anywhere else.
The mountain has a hole that penetrates the sun’s rays at sunset, only experts notice.
