In a striking statement, the head of the Israeli Occupation’s National Security Council, Tzahi Hanegbi, affirmed via Channel 13 on May 22, 2024, that the Israeli Occupation had not achieved any of its goals in its war on the Gaza Strip. These statements come at a time when criticisms directed towards the Israeli leadership, especially Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant, are increasing due to their failure to achieve the declared objectives of this war, foremost among them being the dismantling of the “Hamas” movement and the release of the prisoners held in Gaza.
Hanegbi clarified that the occupation army believes that achieving the war’s goals requires many years, not just one year. This admission reflects the reality faced by the occupation leadership, where it becomes clear that the War Council has not defined any clear objectives for its brutal war in Gaza, nor for the northern front in the occupied territories where clashes escalate with Hezbollah. There are no set dates or tangible strategic objectives. This lack of clear planning may depict the ongoing chaos within the occupation’s leadership.
While the occupation suffers losses in the field from the resistance, some prisoner families attempt to demonstrate to finalize a deal with the resistance, in a “desperate step” by these families to pressure Netanyahu’s government to strike a deal with Hamas. However, it seems that this no longer represents a priority for the occupation leaders, as prisoners and war have become secondary headlines in the occupied territories, after domestic politics, the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against Netanyahu and Galant, and the news of European countries’ recognition of the Palestinian state. Netanyahu’s time and attention are solely dedicated to these issues, as mocked by many Israeli newspapers, likening him to a drunkard behind the wheel leading the state of occupation into a dangerous precipice, as described by Haaretz newspaper.
The fears of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being accused as a war criminal, with Europe closing its doors to him and his wife, greatly disrupt his sleep. It seems his mind is working on two tracks: how to deal with the International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan and how to keep the support of Itamar Ben Gvir and other extremists in his government.
The occupation witnessed an unprecedented political collapse on the international level, as a result of the International Court of Justice’s decisions regarding the massacres committed by occupation forces, followed by investigations by the International Criminal Court. These developments add immense pressure on the occupation as a whole, with escalating international criticism pushing Israel towards increasing international isolation.
While Palestinian resistance continues to stand firm in the field, the Palestinian cause gains momentum in the global awareness and narrative battle. Every day the war continues, the occupation suffers material and political losses, which weigh heavily on it. This war witnessed a diplomatic and international deterioration for the occupation, while the resistance managed its battle with maturity and balance that was unexpected.
The International Arrest Warrants have sparked panic among the occupation leaders. Here is Netanyahu, in a state of panic, making a series of frantic calls to officials in America and Europe, attempting to protect himself from legal pursuit.
While Israeli officials resort to arrogant statements and threats directed at the International Criminal Court and its officials, the occupation simultaneously unleashes armed gangs of settlers to stop trucks believed to be carrying aid to Gaza, burning the goods, further condemning Israel and exposing it to the world.
As he shoots himself in the foot, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu turns to the Biden administration to save him from prosecution by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, while also preparing a speech before Republican lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives. This action may be far worse than his previous actions against President Barack Obama in 2015. It would be an attempt to circumvent President Joe Biden, who is the most sympathetic and supportive of the occupation in the ongoing genocide in Gaza, on the eve of the presidential elections. Internally, Netanyahu continues to appease his extremist allies, without considering the repercussions that may ignite the spirit of resistance in the West Bank further, especially with the extremist settlers seizing Palestinian lands after the nullification of the disengagement law.
The recent actions of the occupation reflect a state of political chaos internally and externally. Its desperate attempts to maneuver between international and local pressures escalated chaos in all aspects of the occupation, undermining the stability and international support it once enjoyed.
