An American journalist has revealed details of what Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant presented to American officials during his visit to Washington this week regarding Israel’s plan for “the day after” the war on Gaza, as reported by Tel Aviv.
In an article published in the American newspaper “The Washington Post” on Friday, June 28, 2024, American journalist David Ignatius disclosed the plan reviewed by Galant. It involves forming a special committee to oversee implementation, chaired by the United States and involving an international force including soldiers from Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, and Morocco responsible for security in Gaza, with logistical aspects managed by American troops.
The plan includes dividing Gaza into 24 administrative zones, with the United States and “moderate” Arab states overseeing a “transitional committee,” gradually handing security responsibilities in Gaza to a Palestinian force.
According to Ignatius, Galant and American officials agree on the necessity of training this Palestinian security force under the current security assistance program for the Palestinian Authority, despite Netanyahu publicly rejecting any role for the Palestinian Authority in post-war Gaza.
Meanwhile, American officials caution that moderate Arabs desire what the Saudis call a “political horizon” towards eventually establishing a Palestinian state, a prospect Galant and most Israelis reportedly oppose, according to Ignatius.
As of Friday, the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza since October 7 has resulted in over 124,000 Palestinian deaths and injuries, mostly children and women, with more than 10,000 missing amidst extensive destruction and famine claiming the lives of dozens of children.
Israel continues its war despite two UN Security Council resolutions demanding an immediate halt, International Court of Justice orders to end the invasion of Rafah city in southern Gaza, and measures to prevent “genocidal acts,” and improve the dire humanitarian situation in the region.
