The American Peace Information Council (APIC) and Green Audit (UK) have initiated an investigation into the possible use of small nuclear weapons by “Israel” in Gaza and South Lebanon. Dr. Christopher Busby, Scientific Secretary of the European Committee on Radiation Risk and a former member of the UK Ministry of Defence’s Depleted Uranium Oversight Board, offers insight into the scientific and social context of the investigation.
APIC and Green Audit are requesting that individuals in the region, such as ambulance drivers or residents of bombed areas, provide engine air filters from ambulances, samples of long hair (10 cm or longer), as well as Geiger counter readings and soil samples from bomb craters. These samples should be sent to Al Mayadeen, who will forward them to APIC. Interestingly, while the Lebanese Red Cross would seem like an obvious source for air filters, its General Secretary, Georges Kitanneh, has declined to cooperate with this inquiry.

‘Israel’ in Gaza: Red Mercury

In 2021, a report published in the esteemed journal Nature confirmed suspicions I had since 2006. It appears that “Israel” has used a new type of nuclear weapon in its assaults on Lebanon (2006) and Gaza (2008, 2014). This weapon, which emits a high-temperature radiation flash and neutrons, kills without leaving the fission products typical of nuclear fallout, like Caesium-137. Notably, this weapon was also reportedly used by the U.S. in Fallujah, Iraq (2003), and earlier in Kosovo.
The aftermath of these weapons leaves behind inhalable Uranium aerosol dust, and neutron radiation that damages human tissues, leading to severe health problems. These health effects often baffle doctors and are difficult to treat. In many cases, doctors watch helplessly as patients succumb to illnesses that mimic other diseases or manifest as fatal fungal infections.
Those directly exposed to the radiation flash suffer severe burns on unshielded parts of their bodies, and inhaling the Uranium dust causes lung fibrosis, eventually spreading to the lymphatic system and causing cancers in various organs. These cancers are not limited to lymphomas and leukemias but can affect organs such as the breast due to the lymphatic vessels’ extensive reach. Inhaled particles may be swallowed and lodged in the colon, leading to cancer there.
Among exposed populations, we have seen a rise in genetic defects, unexplained infant mortality, birth defects, miscarriages, and fertility problems. These outcomes were documented in epidemiological studies I conducted in Fallujah between 2010-2011.
This is not science fiction. I have served as an expert witness in two legal cases—one in the UK and another in Australia—where courts concluded that these particles caused colon cancer. I am currently assisting a U.S. veteran affected by Depleted Uranium who has developed a pituitary tumor, with the particles lodging in the gland behind the nose.
I began this investigation in 2006 after reading a Lebanese newspaper article about radioactive bomb craters in Khiam. A local doctor, Ali Khobeisi, found that one crater had radiation levels 20 times higher than the surrounding areas. My experience with Depleted Uranium weapons had grown by then, as I had given testimony to the U.S. Congressional Committee on Veterans Affairs and written for the United Nations. I had also served on the UK Depleted Uranium Oversight Board.
I asked a colleague to travel to Lebanon to collect samples from the crater and an ambulance air filter. The analysis revealed the presence of Enriched Uranium (EU), not Depleted Uranium, indicating the weapon itself contained EU or caused EU through neutron irradiation.
To understand this, we need to delve into some science. Natural Uranium comprises three isotopes—U-238, U-234, and U-235—with U-238 making up the majority. U-235 is vital for nuclear weapons and energy, and when extracted, the leftover is Depleted Uranium (DU). Our analysis showed Enriched Uranium, not a lab error, confirmed by two separate labs using different methods.
Robert Fisk, a well-known journalist, covered our findings in The Independent in October 2006 under the headline, The Mystery of “Israel’s” Secret Uranium Bomb.
Before discovering EU, I had been focused on the effects of DU. However, in 2006, I was contacted by Emilio Del Guidice, an Italian nuclear physicist, who suggested the weapon involved Cold Fusion with hydrogen. His theory explained the EU, though I remain skeptical.
By 2008, I was approached by Egyptian doctors concerned about the use of DU in Gaza. Once again, samples showed the presence of EU. Further studies in Fallujah mothers revealed EU in their hair.
More evidence surfaced from a Kosovo war veteran, whose kidneys contained Enriched Uranium. Del Guidice continued investigating, even involving journalists from Rai News. However, this research seemed dangerous—several scientists, including Fleischmann, passed away under suspicious circumstances.
Del Guidice himself died under mysterious circumstances before the publication of his 2014 book, The Secret of the Three Bullets.
Fast forward to 2021: The Nature study analyzed 65 samples from Gaza and found significantly high levels of EU, even greater than what we found in earlier studies. This contamination likely stems from “Israel’s” 2014 bombings.
In March of this year, I contacted the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), asking them to investigate. Despite follow-ups, no significant response was received. Both I and my colleague Dr. Mohamad Al-Darraji tried to bring attention to the issue, but our efforts were largely ignored.
In the UK, Baroness Jenny Jones raised the issue in Parliament, but the government had little to say. Despite mounting evidence, there appears to be a deliberate cover-up regarding the use of these weapons.
What can we do? “Israel” and the U.S. seem to have developed a mini-neutron bomb, which kills without fission fallout. This technology may have been tested as early as 1962, during the U.S.’s final atmospheric test.
Our investigation continues, as we collaborate with reporters, scientists, and activists. We seek Geiger counter readings, hair samples, and dust samples from bomb sites. As these weapons could redefine future conflicts, it is crucial that we continue our investigation into the health risks and environmental impact of these weapons.
This is a significant issue, and the world must pay attention.
