Dr. Chen Kugel, the forensic pathologist responsible for examining the body of the leader of Hamas, martyr Yahya Al-Sinwar, stated that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, which caused severe brain damage.
He added during an interview with Hebrew media outlets that there were other injuries, including a missile wound to his right hand, and injuries to his left leg and thigh. Additionally, there were multiple shrapnel wounds scattered throughout his body, one of which hit his chest, causing significant damage.
On Friday, the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, officially announced the martyrdom of its political bureau chief, Yahya Al-Sinwar, after an intense battle with occupation forces in the city of Rafah, southern Gaza Strip.
The head of the movement in Gaza, Khalil Al-Hayya, said in a recorded speech: “We mourn the great leader Yahya Al-Sinwar, who gave his life and was chosen by Allah among the martyrs.” He added, “He was the commander of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, and he was martyred advancing, not retreating, moving between combat positions, defending the land of Palestine and its sanctities.”
Al-Hayya continued: “Al-Sinwar rose as a witness and a martyr, satisfied with the sacrifices he made,” emphasizing that he was a continuation of the legacy of the great martyrs.
He further pointed out that the prisoners of the occupation would not return until the aggression on Gaza stops, there is a complete withdrawal, and our captives are freed from the prisons.
In a statement mourning Al-Sinwar, Hamas said: “With all the pride, dignity, and honor, the movement mourns to our Palestinian people, our nation, and the free people of the world, a man among the noblest and bravest of men, a man who dedicated his life for Palestine and sacrificed his soul for the sake of Allah on the path to its liberation. He was sincere to Allah, so Allah was sincere to him, choosing him as a martyr alongside his fellow martyred brothers.”
Hamas described Al-Sinwar as a “great national leader, head of its political bureau, and commander of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation,” noting that “he was martyred as a hero, advancing not retreating, wielding his weapon, engaging in confrontation with the occupation forces at the front lines, moving through all combat positions, standing firm and resolute on the land of proud Gaza, defending the land of Palestine and its sanctities, and inspiring the spirit of steadfastness, patience, and resistance.”
Hebrew television channels broadcasted a video recording of the battle between the head of Hamas’s political bureau and an occupation force, shortly before his martyrdom inside a house in the Tel Al-Sultan area in Rafah.
The footage shows Al-Sinwar fighting off a “quad copter” drone deployed by the occupation forces inside the house where he had taken shelter. He can be seen throwing a stick with his left hand towards the drone, while his right hand was injured and bleeding.
