Official reports from the Israeli occupation forces, released on Friday, have revealed that more than 10,000 Israeli military personnel have been injured since the start of the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023. This figure sharply contrasts with the Israeli army’s own data, which suggests only half of this number.
The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported: “The figures from the Israeli army show that 5,087 soldiers have been injured in the war since October 7, with 758 of them in critical condition.”
However, the report added: “Data from the Rehabilitation Division within the Ministry of Defense, which also includes police officers, members of the Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security service), and reserve units, indicate that more than 10,000 members of the security forces have been injured in the war.”
It continued, “Estimates suggest that by the end of the year, this number could reach 14,000.” The reasons for the discrepancies between the figures from the Israeli army and the Ministry of Defense were not clarified.
Earlier on Friday, the Israeli Ministry of Defense stated that 890 soldiers, police officers, and Shin Bet agents have been killed since the war began on October 7. This figure includes security personnel who lost their lives in Gaza, northern Israel, southern Lebanon, and the West Bank.
These figures were published before the Israeli military announced on Friday morning that soldiers had been killed in southern Lebanon the previous night. Earlier, the army had noted that the death toll among soldiers since the beginning of the war had risen to 762, including 356 who were killed in ground battles in Gaza.
The casualty statistics released by the Israeli army do not include police officers and Shin Bet agents.
Since the onset of the war on October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation has launched aggressive assaults on both Gaza and Lebanon, resulting in over 158,000 martyrs and wounded, most of whom are women and children. This has led to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe due to the deliberate Israeli targeting of hospitals and refugee shelters, despite repeated international warnings and United Nations resolutions calling for an end to Israel’s aggression.
In parallel, the Israeli occupation army has expanded its operations in the West Bank, and settler violence has intensified, resulting in the martyrdom of 760 Palestinians and injuries to about 6,250 others, in addition to 11,400 arrests.
Meanwhile, armed resistance factions in Lebanon and Gaza, supported by fronts in Yemen and the West Bank, continue to confront the Israeli forces, engaging in direct clashes and launching rockets at military sites and settlements. Observers note that there is a strict blackout on the extent of human and material losses inflicted upon the occupation forces.
