Israeli Minister of War, Yoav Gallant, declared on Tuesday that the election of Na’im Qasim as the new Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah is “temporary.”
Speaking on the X platform, Gallant added, “It’s a temporary choice. Not for long, the countdown has begun.”
Hezbollah announced on Tuesday the election of Na’im Qasim as the Secretary-General of the party, succeeding Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated by the occupation on September 27 at his headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
In an official statement, the party expressed, “Driven by faith in Allah Almighty, adherence to authentic Mohammedan Islam, and commitment to the principles and objectives of Hezbollah, and in accordance with the adopted mechanism for electing the Secretary-General, the Shura of Hezbollah unanimously agreed on the election of His Eminence Sheikh Na’im Qasim as the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, carrying the blessed flag in this journey.”
The statement from Hezbollah’s leadership vowed, “We pledge to Allah Almighty and to the spirit of our most noble and dearest martyr, His Eminence Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah and the martyrs, and to the Islamic Resistance fighters, and our steadfast, enduring, and loyal people, to work together to achieve the principles and objectives of Hezbollah’s path, to keep the flame of resistance bright, and its flag raised until victory is achieved, and Allah prevails over His affair, indeed Allah is Powerful, Mighty.”
In a recorded speech on October 8, Qasim mentioned that the leadership of Hezbollah continues as usual, having overcome the assassination of leaders, and their successors have been appointed, stating, “We have no vacant positions.”

He further emphasized that the new leaders are also predominantly from the first generation of Hezbollah’s founders.
Regarding the selection of a new Secretary-General for the party, Qasim noted at the time that electing a successor to Nasrallah would be imminent, as soon as circumstances permit, before the announcement was made today.
