The Lebanese newspaper Nidaa Al-Watan reported on Wednesday what it claims is a document detailing U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s strategy toward the Middle East, indicating that the document addresses the ongoing Israeli aggression in Lebanon.
The Lebanese newspaper highlighted that Trump’s document asserts that United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 “is no longer effective in its current form and has been overtaken by events.”
The document reportedly suggests that “the situation requires considering a different and advanced implementation mechanism in light of current developments, one that would enforce the disarmament of Hezbollah and eliminate any potential threat to Israel.”
This document, expected to take effect once Trump officially assumes office on January 20, includes a provision stating that “experience has shown that the Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) are unable to prevent the arming of Hezbollah.”
According to the Lebanese newspaper, the document notes that the American president-elect “seeks peace, prosperity, and cooperation among Lebanese communities” and emphasizes the importance of “living peacefully with Lebanon’s neighbors.”
During his campaign, Trump pledged to end wars worldwide, including the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East amid Israel’s continuous aggression against Gaza and Lebanon.
In his victory speech, Trump addressed a crowd of supporters at his campaign headquarters in Florida, emphasizing his commitment to ending global conflicts, including the war in Ukraine and the Middle East conflict, stating, “I will not start wars; I will end them.”
On Tuesday, the news website Axios revealed that a meeting had taken place between U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer in the United States. This meeting aimed to brief Trump on Israel’s plans in the Middle East before he takes office on January 20.
Since September 23, the Israeli occupation army has launched intense and unprecedented airstrikes on various locations across Lebanon, marking the largest escalation between the two sides since confrontations began last year. The strikes have led to thousands of casualties, with over 1.2 million people displaced, according to official data.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah continues its operations against the Israeli occupation, expanding its targets in response to ongoing Israeli crimes in Lebanon since the beginning of the major Israeli escalation on Lebanese territory.
