An Israeli general has warned that the Chief of Staff, by concealing the truth about the army’s dire condition along with the security establishment, is significantly contributing to the disintegration of the army and causing further casualties and injuries. He stressed that the army lacks the capacity to continue.
Brick continued: “It would see Israel’s economy collapsing, social resilience disintegrating, the country on the brink of civil war, the enlightened world distancing itself from Israel, and the ground forces of the army eroded to their very core.”
He added: “This being would see that the army is not telling the political leadership the truth about the severe crisis within its ranks, about 40% of reservists who are ‘voting with their feet’ and refusing to serve again, and about regular soldiers being discharged due to psychological and physical conditions that leave them unable to continue fighting. It would also see ground forces disintegrating in terms of manpower and lacking the necessary combat equipment.”
A Grim Picture of the Army
Brick elaborated: “This being would have seen exactly what journalist Ety Engel described on the ‘Uvda’ program last week. Here is a summary of what was said (the report included, among other things, footage of a funeral and members of Hezbollah calling for the killing of our people): ‘The enemy has grown stronger, the human cost has risen, and a political solution seems more distant than ever. The image presented to us, that Hezbollah is weak and that the Israeli army is victorious in the war in Lebanon, is completely false.’
He added: “This being would also see how Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi tries to present a picture to the political leadership and the public suggesting that the army is very strong and capable of executing any mission until the war’s objectives are achieved. Consequently, the new Defense Minister, Israel Katz, who is completely detached from reality, declares that the fight against Hezbollah must continue until its total defeat.”
Leadership and Operational Challenges
Brick noted: “Halevi does what he is told without explaining that the Israeli army is in a deteriorating condition. It cannot launch a deep ground operation or hold onto the territories it has captured due to a significant shortage of reservists. The army also cannot intercept the hundreds of missiles, rockets, and drones being launched daily, paralyzing life and devastating the north. The Chief of Staff significantly contributes to concealing these truths, alongside the political leadership, which leads to the disintegration of ground forces and results in a large number of deaths and injuries.”
He further commented: “This being would see a corrupt political leadership prioritizing political survival over national security considerations. It would also see many citizens acting like a herd, unaware of what is happening around them, blindly supporting the political and security leadership.”
