Israeli warplanes have carried out over 100 airstrikes targeting several areas in Syria. Explosions were heard in Damascus, including an attack on an air defense facility near the port of Latakia.
The Syrian Civil Defense reported extinguishing a fire in Damascus following Israeli strikes on research facilities on the outskirts of the city.
Officials confirmed no evidence of unusual toxic fumes during firefighting efforts, and no cases of civilian suffocation were recorded.
The Israeli military announced it had reinforced its positions and expanded its control along the strip it occupies on the Syrian side of the border.
Destruction of Infrastructure and Airbases
Reuters quoted two Syrian security sources saying that Israeli airstrikes targeted major airbases in Syria, destroying infrastructure, helicopters, and dozens of fighter jets.
Four airstrikes last night hit a helicopter airport in Aqraba, a town in Damascus’ countryside. Additionally, an Israeli airstrike targeted the Syrian Army’s air defense battalion in Maaloula, also near Damascus.
Media reports indicated that Israeli helicopters and fighter jets destroyed Damascus’ Mezzeh Military Airport in the past few hours. On Monday afternoon, strikes targeted the headquarters of the Fourth Division and Division 105 of the Republican Guard, as well as other areas west of the Syrian capital.
Devastating Scenes in Damascus
Local social media accounts shared footage of violent explosions in various areas of Damascus and nearby neighborhoods within the Rif Dimashq Governorate.
The Israeli military bombarded several military sites in the city of Daraa in southern Syria, including the headquarters of Brigade 132. Most of the weapons storage facilities in these locations were also hit.
The Israeli Army Radio quoted a military source saying the air force launched a wave of strikes targeting weapons depots, including missile batteries and air defense systems in Daraa.
Targeting Syrian Air Defenses
Syrian security sources reported that an Israeli attack targeted an air defense facility near the Syrian port of Latakia on the Mediterranean coast.
Since the collapse of the Syrian regime under President Bashar al-Assad early Sunday, Israel has launched dozens of strikes on military sites under the pretext of destroying Syria’s strategic weapons, which Israel perceives as a potential threat.
Israeli media also stated that the military reinforced its positions and expanded its control along the strip it occupies on the Syrian side of the border.
Ground Incursions into Syrian Territory
Israeli tanks penetrated about three kilometers into Syrian territory in Quneitra Province. The tanks also advanced along the border strip between Syria and Israel, entering areas such as Al-Hamidiya, Al-Ruwayhina, Al-Qahataniya, Al-Ruwayshina, and Be’er Ajam, reaching the tri-border area between Syria, Israel, and Jordan.
