The Israeli occupation army has disclosed a rise in suicide cases among its soldiers, stemming from the Gaza war and the Palestinian resistance operation “Al-Aqsa Flood,” which targeted the settlements surrounding Gaza in 2023.
The army statement mentioned that since the beginning of the war, 891 have been killed, including 329 during the resistance operation on October 7, 2023, with the remainder occurring on various battlefields in Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank, and northern areas of the occupied territories.
The statement also noted that 65 soldiers were killed in “operational” incidents during the war.
Regarding injuries, the army reported 5,569 cases, including 815 severe injuries and 1,387 moderate injuries.
The data was provided by the Directorate of Manpower in the Israeli occupation army on Thursday morning, detailing the number of victims over two years of war.
Israeli military censorship conceals the actual figures of the occupation state’s losses, and Hebrew media only publishes what is allowed under the threat of accountability.
On another note, the army reported that nine of its soldiers were killed in road accidents in 2023, and another 20 in 2024.
As for training accidents within the army, seven were killed in 2023 and six more in 2024.
Regarding suicide cases, the number surged post-Gaza war, with twenty-seven soldiers taking their own lives, seven of whom were in mandatory service, four in the army, and six in the reserves.
In 2024 alone, twenty-one soldiers committed suicide, seven in mandatory service, two in the army, and twelve in the reserves.
The army stated it has a plan to address the psychological distress of soldiers even after the end of the war, based on the expectation that many will find themselves in psychological distress following the cessation of combat.
