The Israeli occupation forces distributed paper leaflets across various areas in the Gaza Strip, featuring propaganda messages with “psychological and mocking” tones. The leaflets highlighted the destruction caused by 15 months of genocide, just before the ceasefire was set to take effect on Sunday morning.
Residents of Gaza shared images of these leaflets on social media platforms. The leaflets included drawings and photographs of destroyed homes, with captions such as, “Is victory at hand or not yet?”—a sarcastic and derisive reference to the dire conditions on the ground caused by the genocide.
Another leaflet displayed the phrase, “A new victory for the resistance,” accompanied by illustrations of children, elderly individuals, and women weeping over the rubble of homes destroyed by Israeli attacks during the war.
On Wednesday, Doha announced the success of mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and the United States in brokering a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, set to begin implementation next Sunday.
The State of Qatar declared an advanced ceasefire in Gaza based on an agreement between the parties, under the sponsorship of mediators.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari stated, “Based on the consensus between the parties and the mediators, the ceasefire in Gaza will begin at 8:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, January 19.”
Al-Ansari added in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), “We advise our brothers to exercise caution and wait for official instructions from credible sources.”
The original ceasefire in Gaza was initially scheduled for 12:15 p.m. local time on Sunday before Qatar announced the new timing.
On Friday evening, the private Egyptian news channel “Cairo News” reported—citing an unnamed source—that an international meeting hosted by Cairo concluded with an agreement to form an operations room. The room will include Egypt, Palestine, Qatar, the United States, and “Israel” to monitor the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Last Wednesday, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman announced the success of mediator efforts—led by Doha, Cairo, and Washington—to finalize a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and a prisoner exchange deal, set to begin on Sunday.
The Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement consists of three stages, each lasting 42 days.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with U.S. support, has committed genocide in Gaza, resulting in over 157,000 Palestinian casualties, including women and children, and more than 11,000 missing individuals. The devastation has also led to widespread famine, killing dozens of children and the elderly in one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters.
On November 21, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza.
