The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement, officially announced on Thursday the martyrdom of its General Commander, Mohammed Deif, along with six members of its Military Council during the ongoing Al-Aqsa Flood Operation.
In a televised statement, Abu Ubaida, the military spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, confirmed the martyrdom of:
Marwan Issa, Deputy Chief of Staff
Ghazi Abu Tama’a, Head of Arms and Combat Services
Raed Thabet, Head of Manpower Division
Rafi’ Salama, Commander of the Khan Younis Brigade
Abu Ubaida also noted that Al-Qassam had previously announced the martyrdom of:
Ahmad Al-Ghandour, Commander of the Northern Gaza Brigade
Ayman Nofal, Commander of the Central Gaza Brigade
He emphasized that this announcement was made only after all necessary security measures were taken, considering the complexity of the battlefield and the operational risks involved. He stated that extensive verification and security precautions were carried out before officially confirming the martyrdom of the resistance leaders.
The General Commander of Al-Qassam Brigades, Mohammed Deif, had previously appeared in exclusive footage aired by Al Jazeera’s investigative program, “Ma Khafiya A’tham” (What is Hidden is Greater), on Friday evening. The footage showed him overseeing the final preparations for the historic attack on October 7th.
In August, the Israeli occupation army claimed responsibility for assassinating Mohammed Deif in an airstrike on Gaza that allegedly took place in July.
A statement released by the Israeli military read:
“On July 13, Israeli fighter jets targeted an area in Khan Younis. After an intelligence assessment, the army confirms that Mohammed Deif was eliminated in the strike.”
