The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, has voiced her deep concern over Israel’s ongoing efforts to displace Palestinians, describing its crimes as highly severe.
In a televised interview, Albanese stated that Israel is forcibly evacuating Jenin Refugee Camp in the northern West Bank, emphasizing that there should be no distinction between the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
She further expressed shock at the limited intervention by Arab states in the Palestinian cause, though she commended Libya’s role in supporting Palestine.
Grave Concerns Over Israeli Actions
Albanese expressed great alarm over the situation in the West Bank, stating her conviction that Israel systematically targets Palestinians regardless of location and operates in a colonial manner to seize their land.
Earlier, Albanese warned that Israel’s genocide against Palestinians will not be confined to Gaza but will extend to the occupied West Bank.
She also labeled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a war criminal who should face international justice, affirming that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people.
Israel Expands Aggression on Jenin
Israel launched a large-scale military offensive on Jenin just days after implementing a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, following a 15-month-long genocide. The occupation forces named their operation “Iron Wall”.
Jenin Governor Kamel Abu Al-Rub stated that Israel is replicating the destruction seen in Gaza by demolishing entire residential blocks in Jenin Camp, with Sunday’s explosions marking the first such devastation in over two decades.
According to Abu Al-Rub, Israeli occupation forces are working to obliterate the camp, making it uninhabitable by systematically demolishing housing units and destroying vital infrastructure.
On Sunday, Israeli forces razed an entire residential block in Jenin Camp, while the Israeli military announced the detonation of 20 buildings in the Al-Damaj neighborhood, signaling an expansion of operations to five additional villages.
ICJ Calls for an End to Israeli Occupation
In July, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) urged Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories seized in 1967, emphasizing the necessity of halting any measures that alter the demographic or geographic structure of these areas.
The court reaffirmed that the Palestinian people possess the internationally recognized right to self-determination and called for the cessation of all actions that violate this fundamental right.
