A recent report by Natura Estrema has cast a spotlight on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s bizarre and jaw-dropping declaration that the United States should take control of Gaza and expel all its inhabitants. If this sounds like something out of a dystopian novel, that’s because it is.
Trump, never one to shy away from a completely outrageous statement, has once again thrown a grenade into Middle Eastern politics—except this time, it’s not just rhetoric. The sheer scale of what he’s proposing is alarming: the forced displacement of over two million people, a blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions, and an act of ethnic cleansing so extreme that it would require an American military occupation of Gaza.
But here’s the real question: Is this just another one of Trump’s incoherent rants, or is there a deeper game being played here?
Trump: “We Will Own Gaza” – But How?
If history has taught us anything, it’s that Trump rarely thinks through the details. His big, bold proclamations—whether it’s buying Greenland or nuking hurricanes—often have all the strategic depth of a reality TV plot twist.
So how exactly does he plan to “own” Gaza? Will the U.S. military forcibly round up Palestinians and dump them across the Egyptian border? Will they be herded onto boats and shipped off to some unspecified location? And who, exactly, is expected to greenlight this plan? Congress? NATO? The UN? Disney?
Even if we suspend all logic for a moment and assume Trump could miraculously pull this off, what then? An indefinite American military occupation of Gaza? The very idea is laughable, considering the U.S. has been trying (and failing) to extricate itself from endless wars in the Middle East. The Pentagon isn’t exactly thrilled about another “forever war,” let alone one that would require babysitting one of the most volatile regions on Earth for the next decade.
Trump’s Gaza “Plan” Proves He’s Historically Illiterate
Trump’s grand vision of Gaza conveniently ignores a few crucial details—like, say, the entire history of the Palestinian struggle. He talks about moving people as if they were pieces on a chessboard, oblivious to the fact that the people of Gaza have already lived through forced displacement, occupation, and siege for decades.
He seems unaware that the 1948 Nakba—which saw the mass displacement of Palestinians—still shapes the collective memory and resistance of the Palestinian people today. His magical thinking ignores decades of failed nation-building attempts in Iraq and Afghanistan, as if the U.S. has a stellar track record when it comes to reshaping the Middle East.
Even if his idea isn’t feasible, it’s politically useful—at least for Netanyahu. Facing internal pressure to continue the war and appease his ultra-right coalition, Netanyahu is likely using Trump’s absurdity to test the waters. The more extreme the proposal, the easier it is to distract from the real issues—like who will govern Gaza, who will rebuild it, and what actual solutions exist.
The Real Endgame: A Saudi-Israeli Deal?
Here’s where things get interesting. If Trump and Netanyahu have a prize they truly desire, it’s not Gaza—it’s a normalization deal with Saudi Arabia.
But the Saudis, quick to distance themselves from Trump’s nonsense, have already stated that any normalization with Israel must include legal guarantees for the Palestinians. In other words, no deal.
So what’s really happening here? Could it be that Trump and Netanyahu are simply creating fake crises to later “solve” them? Stir up chaos, manufacture a diplomatic firestorm, and then swoop in with a less extreme but still problematic deal to appear reasonable?
Final Thought: Is This Just Another Trump Distraction?
Trump’s remarks were shocking, reckless, and absurd—even by his own standards. The sheer impracticality of his Gaza land grab fantasy makes it difficult to take seriously.
But if he’s actually serious? Then we all have a much bigger problem.
