Allah has promised Muslims in the Holy Quran the liberation of Palestine. The Quran references the liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which has been occupied by Israel. Al-Aqsa is a significant religious symbol for both Islam and Christianity, while Zionists covet it. The occupation of Palestine by the Israelites led to the displacement and martyrdom of tens of thousands of Palestinians, as they took control over most of the land.
Jerusalem, located in Palestine, holds a central position in Islam as the first Qibla for Muslims and the site of the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ miraculous night journey (Isra and Miraj). Allah says in the Quran:
“Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from Al-Masjid Al-Haram to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.” (Surah Al-Isra: 1)
Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“I was brought the Buraq, and I rode it until I arrived at Bayt Al-Maqdis. I tied it at the ring used by the Prophets. I entered the mosque and prayed two rak’ahs, then I was ascended to the heavens.” (Sahih Muslim)
Al-Aqsa is one of the three sacred mosques that Muslims are encouraged to travel to. Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Do not set out on a journey except to three mosques: this mosque of mine (Masjid An-Nabawi), Al-Masjid Al-Haram, and Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)
The Prophetic Foretelling of Jerusalem’s Liberation
Muslims firmly believe in the eventual liberation of Bayt Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) as part of their faith. The Prophet ﷺ prophesized that Jerusalem would be reclaimed at the end of times. He mentioned that this event would occur after the decline of Madinah and would be followed by the emergence of the false messiah (Dajjal) after the conquest of Rome, which would take place eight years after the liberation of Jerusalem.
The initial battle for liberation will be fought between Muslims and the Zionists. Muslims will be positioned east of the Jordan River, while Zionists will be in the west. In this battle, Zionists will be defeated, their illegitimate state dismantled, and they will scatter across the Levant. Subsequently, Palestine and Al-Aqsa will return to Islamic governance.
After the conquest, Muslims will expand towards the western lands, including Italy, where they will remain for approximately eight years. In the eighth year after the conquest, the false messiah (Dajjal) will emerge between Iraq and the Levant, spreading corruption and chaos for forty days—where some days will be prolonged as per divine decree.
The Second Battle: The Return of Prophet Isa (Jesus, Peace Be Upon Him)
The subsequent battle will involve the Dajjal and his followers from the Zionist ranks, but he will be confronted by Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him). Prophet Isa will descend in Damascus, Syria, accompanied by two angels. His appearance will be unmistakable to every Muslim, and disbelievers will perish by merely encountering his breath.
The final confrontation will take place in occupied Palestine, specifically in an area where Tel Aviv’s airport currently stands. Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) will slay the Dajjal, break the Christian cross, and abolish the consumption of swine. At that point, the obligation of Jizya (tax on non-Muslims) will cease, as Islam will be the dominant faith.
Muslims will unite under his leadership, and at that moment, even trees and stones will call out, exposing those who hide behind them—except for the Gharqad tree, which is from the trees of the Zionists and will not speak.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The prophets are like brothers from one father, with different mothers, but their religion is one. I am the closest of people to Isa (Jesus), son of Maryam, for there was no prophet between him and me. He will descend, so recognize him: he is a man of medium height, with a reddish-white complexion, as if drops of water are falling from his head, though it is not wet. He will break the cross, kill the swine, abolish the Jizya, and call people to Islam.” (Sunan Abi Dawood)
The Just Rule of Prophet Isa (Peace Be Upon Him)
Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) will rule for forty years—thirty-three years before being raised to the heavens, and seven years after descending again. During this time, he will eradicate injustice and bring peace to the world.
Under his rule, there will be no falsehood, and people will live in harmony. The lion will graze peacefully with camels, leopards with cattle, and wolves with sheep. Children will play safely with serpents, and there will be no harm. After forty years, he will pass away, and Muslims will perform his funeral prayer.
Regarding his descendants, Islam does not provide definitive evidence about Prophet Isa’s (peace be upon him) marriage or offspring. While all prophets were permitted to marry, there is no conclusive proof about Isa’s marital status or lineage. This contrasts with Christian beliefs, which strictly reject any notion of his marriage.
Quranic References to Palestine’s Liberation
The Quran foretells the eventual defeat of the oppressors and the liberation of Palestine by righteous servants of Allah. The verses emphasize that despite the temporary dominance of Zionists, their downfall is certain:
“And We conveyed to the Children of Israel in the Scripture that, ‘You will surely cause corruption on the earth twice, and you will surely reach [a degree of] great arrogance. So when the first of the two promises came, We sent against you servants of Ours—those of great military might, and they probed [even] into the homes, and it was a promise fulfilled. Then We gave you back possession over them and reinforced you with wealth and sons and made you more numerous. If you do good, you do good for yourselves; and if you do evil, it is to your own loss. So when the final promise came, [We sent your enemies] to disfigure your faces and to enter the Masjid as they entered it the first time, and to destroy what they had taken over with [total] destruction.” (Surah Al-Isra: 4-7)
These verses highlight that, despite the Zionist occupation and their oppression, their rule will ultimately come to an end at the hands of righteous Muslims—aligning with the interpretations of scholars regarding the sequence of major signs of the Last Day.
Palestine’s liberation is an integral part of Islamic eschatology, and Muslims believe in its inevitable fulfillment as part of divine decree.
