A newly released side-camera video has captured, for the first time, the moment Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah was targeted in September.
The footage shows a man preparing to get on his motorcycle, looking up as if he heard the sound of an incoming strike. Suddenly, a powerful explosion shakes the area, causing the ground to crack open with underground detonations. Thick smoke and dust fill the air as fires erupt in all directions.
The Israeli Army Radio reported that aircraft from Squadron 69 dropped approximately 85 bunker-busting bombs, each weighing one ton, in the operation to assassinate Nasrallah.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth, the Israeli Air Force relied on intelligence gathered by Military Intelligence Division Unit 8200. The newspaper also noted that Unit 9900 contributed by collecting visual data and pinpointing coordinates, while Unit 504, responsible for handling informants, played a key role in intelligence gathering.
Earlier, Hezbollah’s new Secretary-General, Naim Qassem, announced the funeral date for the late leader Hassan Nasrallah and the party’s Executive Council Chairman, Hashem Safieddine, who were both assassinated in separate Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs months ago.
During a speech, Qassem stated that the mass funeral will take place on February 23, with the slogan “We Remain Committed to the Pledge”. He also confirmed that Hashem Safieddine would officially assume the title of Secretary-General of Hezbollah.
In a surprising revelation, Qassem disclosed that after Nasrallah’s assassination on September 27, Safieddine had been officially elected as Hezbollah’s new leader. However, before the announcement could be made public, he was also assassinated in an Israeli strike on October 3.
Despite these losses, Qassem stressed that Hezbollah’s mission remains unchanged: “The party’s flag will stay raised, and we reject submission, defeat, or foreign influence.”
Last September, Hezbollah officially announced the “martyrdom” of its Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah following an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburb.
In a statement, the party declared:
“The leader of the resistance has ascended as a great martyr, a heroic, courageous, and wise commander.”
The statement further praised Nasrallah’s three-decade leadership, stating that he “led Hezbollah from one victory to another”.
