Israeli researchers Alexander Ribalov and Alexander Delman have called for the forced displacement of Gaza’s population to Libya, claiming it to be the “best option” compared to Egypt and Jordan, according to an article published on the Israel National News website.
The two researchers stated that the resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza has become a topic of interest for politicians and media outlets. However, they insisted that its implementation in Egypt or Jordan would face major obstacles, citing what they described as “security risks and fragile political stability” in both countries.
They argued that relocating Gaza’s residents to Jordan could destabilise the country due to the strong presence of the Muslim Brotherhood, while in Egypt, their ideological influence could pose a threat to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s regime.
Furthermore, they claimed that Egypt is already grappling with a severe population crisis, pointing out that the Nile Delta—home to over 40 million people—is one of the world’s most densely populated regions, while the rest of Egypt’s landmass is largely desert and uninhabitable.
A Dangerous Israeli Narrative Aiming to Empty Gaza
The researchers warned that resettling Palestinians from Gaza in Egypt or Jordan would pose serious security threats to Israel, stating that Jordan could become a safe haven for Hamas, which would threaten Israeli borders. They further alleged that Hamas could act as a proxy for Iran and Turkey.
Moreover, they suggested that allowing Gaza’s residents to remain in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula would endanger Israeli border towns, particularly if Israel fails to maintain control over the Philadelphi Corridor. They warned that such a scenario could enable Palestinians to return to Gaza via underground tunnels.
Libya: A New Target for Israeli Forced Displacement Plans?
The article emphasised that most Arab nations would refuse to accept Palestinians from Gaza. However, it singled out Libya as an exception that could be exploited.
The researchers pointed out that Libya has vast land areas, a low population density, and internal divisions that create “opportunities” for resettlement. They claimed that Libya’s rival militias might be willing to accept Palestinians in exchange for Western political and financial support.
They further suggested that General Khalifa Haftar—who controls much of Libya—could be the ideal partner for this plan.
Serving Western and Israeli Interests at the Expense of Palestinians
The article shamelessly argued that resettling Palestinians in Libya would serve Western geopolitical interests, helping the United States strengthen its influence in North Africa while limiting the presence of China, Russia, and Turkey.
The researchers concluded their piece by falsely claiming that relocating Palestinians from Gaza to Libya would not only “solve the Gaza issue” but also “stabilise the Middle East” while securing strategic gains for Israel, the United States, and their allies.
A New Israeli Attempt to Erase Palestinian Identity
This latest proposal is another blatant attempt by Israeli strategists to erase the Palestinian presence and forcibly displace Gaza’s population under the guise of geopolitical calculations.
The notion that Palestinians can be uprooted from their homeland and scattered across the region reflects Israel’s ongoing efforts to implement a new Nakba (catastrophe)—a continuation of its historical oppression of the Palestinian people.
The people of Gaza have repeatedly proven that they will not abandon their land despite the blockade, aggression, and suffering imposed upon them.
The world must reject and resist these Israeli narratives that seek to erase Palestinian identity and justify forced displacement. The only real solution remains the end of Israeli occupation and justice for the Palestinian people.
