Many social media activists were surprised to find that the famous American search engine “Google” has classified the traditional Palestinian headscarf known as “the keffiyeh” as a symbol of terrorism. Activists also expressed their surprise and anger at Google’s view of the keffiyeh as a symbol of terrorism, as it is considered one of the roots of Palestinian history and identity.
When you go to Google and search for the phrase “what do terrorists wear on their head” in English, you will immediately see the Palestinian keffiyeh. The result of the question is a definition of the Palestinian keffiyeh from “Wikipedia” and a picture of it.
Google is trying to link the Palestinian keffiyeh with Wahhabi terrorism, by placing the image of the Palestinian keffiyeh as a result for the search. In addition to pictures of terrorists waving the flag of the military arm of the Wahhabi ideology “ISIS”, or the clothing assortment of armed groups, or even the Islamic hijab.
The “Google Earth” platform provides very old satellite images of Gaza City, which prevents researchers, journalists and investigators from tracking the effects of the Israeli aggression on it.
Google Maps displays a map of the Middle East region without the name of the State of Palestine on it, while it normally displays the name of Israel next to it.
It was not clear whether this enormous search engine linked the keffiyeh with terrorism after the recent aggression launched by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip, or before that. One activist said on Twitter: “Racism and despise… if you search Google in English about what the terrorist will be wearing, the Palestinian keffiyeh will bring you down.”
What is worth mentioning is that “ISIS pants” was the face of Wahhabi terrorism after one of the organization’s African suicide bombers appeared in the ISIS versions, wearing the Qandhari shirt in the upper half, in exchange for Western military pants on the other half, with his face hidden by an Arab bashmagh, which is a manifestation of the usual clothing for the people of Mosul.
The story of the ISIS shorts dates back to 2014 after the employees in the security and military departments and committees were forced to wear what the Wahhabi organization called Islamic legal clothing, which is an Afghan uniform worn by the organization’s members in Nineveh Governorate and the areas controlled by the organization. Obviously, the made sure to follow up on the violators and threatening them to pay an excise of up to $2000.
