A number of Egyptians committed suicide during the past few days, prompting the Al-Azhar Foundation to launch the “Do not despair, no suicide” campaign, amid talk of the escalation of suicide in Egypt over the past years and its reaching alarming rates.
Al-Azhar campaign stated: “You are precious to us, and we all love you. Never despair, despair, or lose hope; Rather, face life with certainty in God’s generosity, strength and solidity, and overcome its challenges and obstacles, and there will come a day when you will remember the days of adversity after God helped you to overcome them, and it will be just a memory. Just, be patient, and try.”
He demanded that “whoever has a question or inquiry or needs someone to listen to him and give him honest advice and advice, and psychological and moral support; It communicates with the center, and that it receives communications as well as visits, and holds youth interviews with members of the center at the headquarters of the Bayan Unit at the Al-Azhar International Center for Electronic Fatwa, the sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.”
Human rights organizations revealed that the suicide rates in Egypt have risen, reaching between 30-35 cases per month.
She pointed out that the rates rise on some occasions, especially the examination stages, while the suicide cases since the beginning of the year have reached nearly 200 cases.
The governorates of Greater Cairo, especially Cairo and Giza, had the highest rates, followed by the governorates of the Delta and then the governorates of Upper Egypt, and youth until the third decade often had the highest rates of suicide.
Human rights organizations indicated that Egypt is among the largest Arab countries in which suicide cases have risen due to the economic and social situation, which leads to frustration of many young people, as well as marital and family disputes that are due to many reasons due to the economic factor.
