According to a Saturday report by Reuters, the Israeli occupation is still considering launching a limited strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, possibly without coordination with Washington—despite U.S. objections.
Citing an Israeli official and two informed sources, Reuters revealed that “Israel” is seriously weighing options to hit Iranian nuclear infrastructure in the coming months. This comes even after U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly informed Prime Minister Netanyahu that Washington is currently not prepared to back such an attack.
Over recent months, Tel Aviv has presented multiple scenarios for a potential assault, including air raids and special operations. These plans aim to temporarily set back Iran’s nuclear capability—by a year or more, according to Israeli assessments.
Sources indicated that parts of the plan are being considered for late spring or summer.
Netanyahu has repeatedly vowed not to allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. However, Trump—according to The New York Times—rejected a recent Israeli proposal for an imminent strike, opting instead to pursue diplomacy with Tehran.
As Washington and Tehran meet this weekend in Rome for a second round of nuclear talks—following a first round in Oman—Israeli officials are reportedly still preparing for a possible solo strike. Reuters notes that any Israeli action now under consideration would likely be smaller in scale and need less direct American involvement than earlier proposals.
Yet such a move could provoke Trump’s displeasure and risk weakening broader U.S. support for “Israel.”
Two former senior officials from the Biden administration told Reuters that similar Israeli plans were floated last year and would have required deep U.S. military and intelligence cooperation. Israel has also requested U.S. assistance in defending itself against potential Iranian retaliation.
While Trump stated publicly that he prefers diplomacy, calling it the best path for Iran’s future, Israeli sources told Reuters that no final decision has been made regarding an attack.
Meanwhile, a high-ranking Iranian security official warned that Tehran is fully aware of Israel’s intentions and is prepared to respond with force. “We have reliable intelligence that Israel is planning a major strike. This is driven by dissatisfaction with ongoing diplomacy and by Netanyahu’s personal political calculations,” the official stated.
“Window of Opportunity Is Closing”
According to Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth, some in Tel Aviv believe “Israel” now has the operational readiness to strike Iran independently. Political and military leaders argue such an attack could do more than stall Iran’s nuclear ambitions—it may destabilise the Islamic Republic itself.
Israeli analysts warn that the “window of opportunity” is closing fast. Intelligence circles believe Iran is closer than ever to acquiring nuclear capability, and that internal vulnerabilities in the Iranian regime make this moment critical for a decisive military strike.
