The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, revealed on Sunday the full details of the complex ambush it executed a day earlier east of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza.
In a brief statement, Al-Qassam declared:
“Our fighters successfully carried out the ‘Sword Breaker’ ambush east of Beit Hanoun. During the operation, our Mujahideen targeted a military jeep of the ‘Storm’ model belonging to the Israeli Combat Intelligence Collection Corps in Gaza Division, hitting it with an anti-armour projectile and causing confirmed casualties.”
The statement added:
“As soon as the Israeli backup force rushed to rescue the first unit, our fighters detonated a ‘Television-3’ anti-personnel explosive device, resulting in multiple Israeli soldiers being killed or wounded. They also targeted a newly established enemy post in the area with four RPG shells and a barrage of mortar fire.”
Israeli Occupation Acknowledges Soldier Death
The Israeli army confirmed the death of one of its soldiers in the ongoing battles in Gaza, marking the first casualty since resuming its genocidal war on March 18, 2025, following the collapse of the ceasefire.
The army stated that First Sergeant Galeb Suleiman Al-Nasasra (35) was killed in northern Gaza clashes, while three other soldiers sustained injuries in the same confrontation.
Netanyahu Government Rejects Full Prisoner Deal
Simultaneously, Omar Dostri, spokesperson for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, told Channel 12 that retrieving all captives from Gaza “is currently impossible.”
Dostri stated in an interview:
“A deal to retrieve all the hostages at once is not feasible at this time.”
He claimed that “military pressure is yielding results” and that “once the hostages are retrieved, Hamas will be eliminated.”
Dostri added that Israel remains committed to the American envoy Steve Witkoff’s proposal, which suggests releasing half of the living captives first and the rest at the final stage of the deal.
According to Dostri, Hamas continues to reject any proposal that does not include a complete ceasefire.
The Numbers Behind the Crisis
Tel Aviv estimates that 59 Israeli captives remain in Gaza, of whom 24 are alive, while over 9,500 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons, enduring severe torture, starvation, and medical neglect—leading to multiple deaths, according to human rights and media reports.
The first stage of a prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement began on January 19, 2025, under Qatari-Egyptian mediation and U.S. support. Hamas honoured the deal, but Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu—wanted by the International Criminal Court—reneged on the second phase and resumed the genocide on March 18, 2025, appeasing the most extreme factions in his far-right government, as noted by Israeli media.
