France.. 8-month suspended prison sentence for a man who shouted “Allahu Akbar” in a store

A French court has given an 8-month suspended prison sentence to a man 52 years old and a fine 750€ and 2 years of ineligibility. And the prosecution was dropped from his 38-year-old partner, who was tried on the same facts.

And the two men who belong to the fundamentalist Tablighi Jamaat were in a supermarket in Saint-Etienne, on June 7, when the older man knelt in a hallway and raised his hands, saying “Allahu Akbar” three times.

During a court hearing on July 29, the man said that what he had done was a reaction to hearing the news of the reopening of religious institutions in the north of the country after they were closed under health restrictions to contain the outbreak of Corona. He added, “My prayer in the store was an emotional reaction from the bottom of my heart. I was excited, it was an invocation, not a call to war.”
