The Egyptian-Australian Abla Kaddous won the title of “Australian Personality” for the year 2022, for her charitable work and helping Muslims in the state of New South Wales over the years.
For her part, Kaddous said during an interview with Al-Jazeera Mubasher that her previous suffering from discrimination due to wearing the hijab and restrictions on her jobs prompted her to resign from work and start a volunteer journey to help veiled Muslim women.
Abla Kaddous founded the first social care service in Australia for Muslim women more than 35 years ago, while she said that “one of the most important foundations of her association, the Islamic Women’s Welfare Association, is to preserve the Islamic religion and invite Muslim children to adhere to their religion.”
She explained, “Our goal was to educate Muslim women, regardless of their background, color and language,” stressing that “what brought them together in the association was Islam and nothing else.”
She also noted that she did not face major legal problems during her volunteer trip in Australia, as the country gives you freedom.
Regarding her personal life before traveling to Australia, Abla said that she used to play rowing during her stay in Egypt, and continued playing sports in Australia.
