Some scholars said Allaah the exalted made the division of this nation into 73 sects that the Messenger of Allaah informed about come true already. As for the 72 groups, 20 of them are from the RawaafiD (shiites).
Among them are the Zaydiyys (the Zaydiyyah) and they are of three factions:
1. al-Jaarudiyyah,
2. as-Sulaymaaniyyah, and
3. Abtariyyah.
Also, among them are the Kaysaaniyyah, and they are of two groups:
4. as will be clarified later.
5. (these are 4 &5).
Among the Rawaafid are the Imaamiyyah, and there are 15 groups: of them:
6. the Muhammadiyyah,
7. the Baaqiriyyah,
8. the Naawuwsiyyah,
9. the Shomaytiyyah,
10. the ^Ammaariyyah,
11. the Ismaa^iliyyah,
12. the Mubaarakiyyah,
13. the Musaawiyyah,
14. the Qat^iyyah,
15. the Ithnaa^ashriyyah (the twelvers),
16. the Hishaamiyyah,
17. the Zuraariyyah,
18. the Yoonusiyyah,
19. the ShayTaaniyyah,
20. the Kaamiliyyah.
Twenty of them are Khawaarij:
21. the Mahkamatu-l-Uwlaa,
22. the AzaariQah,
23. the Najdaat,
24. the Sufriyyah,
The ^Ajaaridah have factions:
25. Khaaziniyyah,
26. the Shu3aybiyyah,
27. the Ma3luwmaatiyyah,
28. the Majhooliyyah,
29. the Saltiyyah,
30. the Akhnasiyyah,
31. the Shabiybiyyah,
32. the Ma3badiyyah,
33. the Rashiydiyyah,
34. the Mukramiyyah,
35. the Hamziyyah,
36. the Ibraaheemiyyah, and
37. the Waaqifiyyah.
The Ibadiyyah have four factions:
38. the Hafsiyyah,
39. the Harithiyyah,
40. Ashaabu Taa3atin laa yuraadu biha-llaah (the people who believe in obedience that is not meant for Allaah).
The Yazidiyyah are not counted among the Islamic factions, because they have permitted nullifying the Islamic Law.
Twenty of them are the deniers of destiny; the Mu^tazilah. Each of their sects charges the other with blasphemy, and they are:
41. Waasiliyyah,
42. the ^Amriyyah,
43. the Huthaliyyah,
44. the Nadhdhamiyyah,
45. the Aswariyyah,
46. the Ma3mariyyah,
47. the Iskaafiyyah,
48. the Ja^fariyyah,
49. the Bishriyyah,
50. the Mardaariyyah,
51. the Hishaamiyyah,
52. the Thumaamiyyah,
53. the Jaahidhiyyah,
54. the Khayatiyyah,
55. the Shahhaamiyyah,
56. the so-called followers of Saalih Qubbah,
57. the Mu’nisiyyah,
58. the Ka3biyyah,
59. the Jubba’iyyah, and
60. the Bahshamiyyah.
Three factions are Murji’ah.
61. One of them believes in irjaa’ (negating the punishment of the believers) as well as denying destiny, like Abuw Shimr, Muhammad Ibn Shabiyb Al-Bisriyy and the Khaalidiyyah. These are Murji’ah who denied the destiny.
62. A faction among them believes irjaa’, as well as that slaves have no will. These are Murji’ah who are Jahmiyyah.
There is a faction that believes in denying the torture of the believers and they do not believe in denying the will of the slave, nor denying destiny, and among themselves there are five factions:
63. the Yuwnusiyyah,
64. the Ghassaaniyyah,
65. the Thawbaaniyyah,
66. the Tuwmaniyyah, and
67. the Mariysiyyah (also called the Mirriysiyyah).
According to these details the Murji’ah are made of seven factions.
Among the sects is
68. the Bakriyyah,
69. the Najjaariyyah,
70. the Diraariyyah.
71. the Jahmiyyah.
72. the Karraamiyyah.
The 73rd faction is the saved faction, Ahlu-s-Sunnah wa-l-Jamaa3ah, which includes Ashaabu-l-Hadith and Ashaabu-r-Ra’y, and it includes the groups of the scholars who have differed in the branches of the Religious Law (the mathhabs). These differences do not dictate disowning each other or charging each other with blasphemy.
