The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) indicated that the destruction of Gog and Magog (Ya’juj and Ma’juj) will take place near Jabal al-Khamr, which is identified as the mountain of Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Then they will advance until they reach Jabal al-Khamr, which is the mountain of Bayt al-Maqdis. They will say: ‘We have conquered those on the earth, now let us ascend and fight those in the heavens!’ They will shoot their arrows into the sky, and Allah will return their arrows covered in blood.” (Muslim, 2937)
What is Jabal al-Khamr?
The term al-Khamr refers to dense and intertwined trees that obscure what lies within. In the hadith, this mountain is specifically identified as the mountain of Bayt al-Maqdis, affirming that this is the location where Gog and Magog will meet their end.
The Greater Battles in the Levant
It has been mentioned that major battles will take place in this region, particularly in Bilad al-Sham (the Levant). Notable end-time events that are prophesied to occur there include:
-
- The destruction of the Christians in the Battle of Marj Dabiq, near Aleppo.
-
- The camp of the believers (Fustat al-Muslimeen) will be established in Damascus.
-
- The Dajjal (Antichrist) will be defeated in Lod (Lydda).
-
- The Muslims will enter Bayt al-Maqdis, opening its gates to engage in battle against the Dajjal.
-
- The annihilation of Gog and Magog will also take place in this region.
For this reason, the victorious group (Ta’ifah Mansurah) at that time will be in the land of Sham.
Will Animals Feed on the Remains of Gog and Magog?
Regarding whether animals will graze on the flesh of Gog and Magog and whether their meat will make livestock fat, we refer to the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who said:
“By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the animals of the earth will grow fat and become full from their flesh.” (Ibn Majah, 4080; Ahmad, 10632)
Another narration from al-Tirmidhi states:
“By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the animals of the earth will grow fat, swell, and thrive from their flesh.” (Tirmidhi, 3153)
This suggests that their decaying bodies will become a source of sustenance for the beasts of the earth, fulfilling the divine decree regarding their demise.
